Homemade Rosemary Crackers

Homemade rosemary crackers ready to enjoy with your favorite cheese or dip

I love recipes that are simple and straightforward, but incredibly impressive at a dinner party. The freshness and crispiness you get from making your own crackers at home will make you never want to buy crackers from the store again. Not to mention, they’re also incredibly cheap to make in your own kitchen from scratch. The best part of this recipe — you can alter it to use almost any dried herb you like. I enjoy swapping rosemary for thyme, dill, or even red chili flakes for a little bit of spice. This gives you endless possibilities to craft the perfect, creative cheese board or snack table.

How to store homemade rosemary crackers? Homemade crackers should be stored in an air-tight container or bag and kept at room temperature to ensure the best results. The enemy of keeping your crackers fresh is moisture, so be sure to keep them out of any humid areas and in a secure container.

How long do homemade rosemary crackers last? I recommend eating homemade crackers within a week of making them to ensure they’re at their peak freshness. The longer the crackers sit, the more moisture they take on and they can become stale or lackluster in flavor. For the best results, make them only a day or so in advance.

How long does it take to bake homemade rosemary crackers? Homemade crackers take about 20 minutes to bake in an oven at 375 degrees fahrenheit. With that being said, use the visual cues of the crackers as well as the smell to help determine when they’re ready. The crackers should be lightly brown and starting to crisp and they should also have a nice herbaceous aroma when they’re finished baking.

How to tell when homemade rosemary crackers are done? The best way to tell when rosemary crackers are done is by visually observing that they’re evenly and lightly browned. This signifies that the dough is cooked through and will become nicely crispy when they’ve cooled.

Can I use fresh rosemary to make crackers? Yes, you can absolutely use fresh rosemary when making homemade crackers. For best results, chop the rosemary very finely when using the fresh herb to avoid any undesirable, chewy texture when eating the crackers.

Can you substitute any other herb in this cracker recipe? Yes, there are many different herbs and spices that make wonderful substitutions in this cracker recipe. Some of my favorites are:

  • Thyme

  • Dill

  • Red pepper flakes

  • Chives

  • Sage

  • Turmeric

  • Everything but the bagel seasoning spice mix
